What This Site Actually Does
This site exists for one reason: to gather the things in Berlin that genuinely cost nothing and leave the rest out. The core is 37 free walking tours, every one listed on GuruWalk or freetour.com and run by an independent local guide. Around them sit the memorials, parks and viewpoints that ask for no ticket. Nothing on these pages is operated or sold by this site, and every reservation happens on the platform where the walk is listed.
What The Guide Contains
Walks sit in five categories: Classic Centre Walks, Wall And Cold War Walks, Third Reich And WWII Walks, Alternative And Street Art Walks and Jewish History Walks. Every one of the 37 has a page of its own stating the meeting point, the language, the duration and the rating. The free attractions sit beside them, always with the full picture: the Tiergarten is free to walk while the Victory Column climb is EUR 4.50 cash only, the Topography of Terror charges nothing, and the Reichstag dome is free once you register in advance.
What Appears Here And What Does Not
Routes are never invented here. Walk pages state only the platform, guide, meeting point, neighbourhood, language, duration and the stops the guide lists on GuruWalk or freetour.com. What each page does state is what is actually known: the platform, the guide or operator, the meeting point, the neighbourhood and the language. Everything else lives on the walk's own page on GuruWalk or freetour.com, where the guide sets the details.
How The Free Walks Work
Pay what you want is the price of every walk here. A visitor reserves a free spot on the walk's own page on GuruWalk or freetour.com, joins the guide at the stated meeting point, and tips at the end whatever the walk felt worth. Nothing is charged up front and no deposit is taken. This site runs none of the walks; each belongs to an independent local guide.
Where Each Figure Comes From
Each number printed here belongs to the source that owns it. Ratings and review counts appear exactly as GuruWalk or freetour.com publish them, always with the scale stated: GuruWalk walks rate out of 5, freetour.com walks out of 10, and no conversion is made between the two. Durations, languages and meeting points are taken from each walk's own page. Free-entry rules come from the operators, so a place that is free only under a condition always carries that condition, and a detail that cannot be settled is simply left out.
How Ratings Are Shown
The two platforms use different scales and neither is turned into the other. On GuruWalk the scale is out of 5: Rise And Fall Of Nazism by Alexis is rated 4.91 out of 5 across 1,763 GuruWalk reviews. On freetour.com the scale is out of 10: the SANDEMANs Original Free Tour by SANDEMANs Tours - Berlin is rated 9.4 out of 10 across 35,412 freetour.com reviews. Whichever scale applies, it is printed with the rating every single time.
Each Rating Keeps Its Scale
- The Walkative! German-And-English Intro Walk by Walkative! Tours, a GuruWalk listing: rated 4.92 out of 5 across 6,858 reviews.
- Behzad's Short English Wall Walk, a GuruWalk listing: rated 4.95 out of 5 across 577 reviews.
- Historical Centre, English And Spanish by Culture and Touring Tours Berlin, a freetour.com listing: rated 9.4 out of 10 across 7,157 reviews.
- The Destino Berlín Spanish Centre Walk, a Spanish-language GuruWalk listing by Destino Berlín: rated 4.94 out of 5 across 10,464 reviews.
- Rude Bastard's English Free Tour by Can You Handle It Tours, a freetour.com listing: rated 9.2 out of 10 across 178 reviews.
- Behzad's English Kreuzberg Neighbourhood Walk on GuruWalk: rated 5 out of 5 across 922 reviews.
- No rating on this site is converted: GuruWalk listings print out of 5 and freetour.com listings print out of 10, exactly as each walk's own page publishes them.
Ratings here are printed the way each platform prints them. A GuruWalk walk shows its score out of 5, drawn from its GuruWalk reviews, and a freetour.com walk shows its score out of 10, drawn from its freetour.com reviews. Nothing is rescaled, blended or rounded into another system. Small review counts are shown as they stand, so readers can weigh a figure for themselves.
Every Rating, Its Own Scale
- All 37 free walking tours listed here are run by independent guides, and a spot on any of them is reserved on GuruWalk or freetour.com rather than on this site.
- Walks set out from Mitte, Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, Prenzlauer Berg and Schoeneberg, in English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Catalan. Language, meeting point and duration sit on each walk's own page.
- This site runs no walk. Every one belongs to an independent guide, and a place is reserved on GuruWalk or freetour.com, where that guide published it.
- Pay what you want is the price of every walk here. A spot costs nothing to reserve, and the guide receives whatever tip the walker chooses at the end.
Where Every Walk Is Reserved
Every walk on this site is a real listing, published on GuruWalk or freetour.com by an independent local guide who runs it. The two platforms grade differently: GuruWalk reviews are scored out of 5, freetour.com reviews out of 10, and no score is converted from one scale to the other. A walk page here names the platform, the guide, the meeting point and the district, and the reservation itself is made on the walk's own page on GuruWalk or freetour.com, never on this site.
How A Place Is Reserved
Every free label on this site traces back to a recorded status. A place is marked free, conditionally free or paid, and the condition never gets dropped: the Charlottenburg Palace Gardens are free while the palace buildings are EUR 12 each, and the Holocaust memorial field is free while the Information Centre audio guide is EUR 3. Where a status could not be settled, nothing is claimed.
How This Site Earns
This site runs no tours of its own. The walks belong to independent local guides, and a reservation is made on GuruWalk or freetour.com, never here. Links to those platforms earn this site a fee when a reader books through them, at no added cost to the reader. Each walk remains free, pay what you want: reserve a spot, take the walk, and tip the guide what it was worth to you.
Page Map
- The home page collects everything free in Berlin on one page: walking tours, sights, parks and free-entry days at museums.
- Walk pages state the platform, the guide, the meeting point, the language, the duration and the rating, and each reservation link points to GuruWalk or freetour.com.
- Classic Centre Walks holds the walks that meet at Pariser Platz, the Rotes Rathaus, the Brandenburg Gate and the Neptune Fountain, all through the historic centre of Mitte.
- Classic Centre Walks and Alternative And Street Art Walks include walks meeting at Pariser Platz, the Neptune Fountain, Moritzplatz and Rio-Reiser-Platz, among other points across Mitte and Kreuzberg.
- The disclosure page names GuruWalk and freetour.com as the two platforms behind the links here, and says plainly that this site operates no tour of its own.
